Well, normally you’d use a plastic or rubber seal to keep the container air-tight, but they wanted to be completely plastic free. So they’ve used a silicone seal instead, and the lids sit inside. This means you lose a small amount of the volume of the container, but it’s not a big deal.

The bamboo lids have already been treated and oiled, so they don’t need any maintenance, which is good news.
