Eco Friendly Christmas Gifts – More!

by Clare Delaney

You’re Sure to Find an Eco Friendly Christmas Gift here

I thought I’d listed all my favourite eco friendly Christmas gifts already – but I just had to add some more, they’re so cool!

Remember, if you’re going to give gifts this Christmas or festive season, please make sure they’re eco friendly Christmas gifts.  We really don’t want to cause further manufacturing pollution for gifts which are discarded after the holidays.  Eco friendly Christmas gifts are sensitively made and the gifts I recommend are not only green but also unique and interesting too.

Browse through all my pages of eco friendly Christmas gifts – you’re sure to find something for everyone – and shortly I’ll cover eco friendly Christmas wrapping too.

Give Time!

Eco friendly Christmas gift give time

Give the gift of time!

Give the gift of time!  Give a gift of an hour’s babysitting, or baking, or running errands, or computer help, or financial advice, or whatever you’re good at.  You don’t have to run around buying a gift, and you know the recipient will appreciate it.  I think this is a cool idea!  No wastage, nothing to be stored, no space required, it doesn’t end up in a landfill, it’s a really warm, caring and eco friendly gift!

Give Trees!

Trees are an eco friendly giftPlant a tree as a gift!  Trees purify the air (they absorb CO2) and so reduce pollution.  They hold soil in place, preventing erosion and landslides.  They provide shade, sometimes fruit to eat, and a home for wildlife.  Trees provide us with products such as paper, stationery, furniture, ornaments.  If you think about the amount of wood products you  have used over your lifetime, don’t you think it makes sense to give back a tree?  Or several?

Plant trees to give back what you have used, and plant trees as a special gift for a loved one.

In the USA, go here  to buy a tree which is planted and stewarded for $54 – your loved one will receive a beautiful eco friendly certificate and viewing access to a specially created web page with their name and your greeting and details of their tree.

In the UK the Woodlands Trust offers a one year gift membership for £33 (or just £18 if the recipient is over 60).  Your recipient will receive:

  • A tree dedicated in their name
  • A personalised tree dedication certificate
  • A unique identification guide for native trees and shrubs
  • A directory listing over 1,000 Woodland Trust woods

In South Africa, Food & Trees for Africa will plant a tree in your name or as a gift for R100 per tree, and they have other green gifts in their shop (profits go to planting more trees).   In Australia go to Greenfleet where you can combine a tree planting with carbon offsets too if you wish.

These are such great ideas! I would never have thought of half of these. Being “The Babysitting Lady,” I could certainly give free babysitting for gifts but since most of the people on my list would have no need for that, I will have to give your other ideas more thought.

All great ideas again…the idea that we can give gifts that will REALLY help people and change lives, not just give a fleeting moment of joy is truly life changing!

Another list of great gift ideas. I especially like the suggestion to give a gift of time or service. Very cool.

Planting trees is the important one for me. Too often we are seeing dozens if not hundreds of trees all around in local neighbourhoods being removed to make way for new roads etc. Never mind illegal logging on a whole different scale in other countries altogether.
