Native American burial sites have been blown up to make way for more of Trump’s wall (yes, the same wall that wind blew over last month). The Wall will now run through Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, a Unesco recognised natural reserve. There was no consultation. Cacti that are over 200 years old and have sacred significance have been chopped down. One area contained artifacts dating back 10,000 years. There is concern about damage to the local underground aquifer, as well as to migrating wildlife in the remote desert region in Arizona.

wake up call climate change wildfiresThe dreadful bushfires in Australia may prove to be a turning point in the fight against the climate crisis. An area larger than Ireland is burnt out, 33 people died, thousands of homes are destroyed, the country’s unique wildlife is devastated (an estimated 1 BILLION animals died), and cities were shrouded in toxic smoke. And now, floods are causing more havoc. People are angry. Bushfire survivors have carried remnants of their charred homes to create a “trail of destruction” from Parliament House to a mining lobby group’s office. They want an end to the influence of the coal sector on politicians. I hope they are successful!

increase your energy with less stressStress. Here’s an interesting idea. Suppose something happens that makes you feel stressed.  Often, you’ll ask yourself WHY this is happening to you – but that causes you to simply get into an endless loop of questions. Instead, you should ask WHAT you can do to fix it. This immediately puts you into problem-solving mode. And that immediately reduces your stress.

And to really reduce your stress levels – permanently – join the 5-day Challenge. You’ll discover 5 super-simple Yoga stretches (even I  can do them!) that will really help reduce your stress. Just click the picture below.

wind energy for drawdownI am so tired of people telling me that renewable energy isn’t scaleable, it’s only OK for individual houses. Well,Scotland shows it can be done. In 2019, wind turbines in Scotland generated almost twice the entire country’s domestic power requirements in just the first 6 months. (When my husband went back to his home town in Scotland last year, he was astonished at the number of wind turbines there. They’re working, and it’s all lovely clean energy!).  Last year Scottish Power became the first major UK energy firm to completely drop fossil fuels in favour of wind power.  It CAN be done!

Hurricane Harvey in Texas. Frequent flooing could lead to mass migration

Chronic ill-health, loss of financial stability and anxiety brought on by heavy rainfall are just some of the enduring effects of flooding on individuals, according to the first UK study to examine the long-term impact on communities.  As well as persistent coughs and throat infections, residents also reported weight loss, high blood pressure, insomnia, and heavy drinking, which they directly attributed to their experience of flooding. Having used up savings to finance flood-related costs, the lack of a “financial cushion” is also very stressful.
