A round-up of this week’s environmental, green and ecofriendly news and updates.

luvable-dog-rescue-centreYou’re going to love what they do at Luvable Dog  Rescue Center in Eugene, Oregon, USA.

Instead of endless rows of cages, filled with often-scared pets waiting for a forever home, Luvable has built cottages!

Each cottage has furniture, paintings and more, to make the dogs feel at home.

Before you think it’s a bit over-the-top, there is excellent reasoning behind it. The cottages offer the dogs a home-like environment that minimizes stress while they wait to be adopted.

Plus, the rescue centre staff can see exactly how the dog behaves in a home environment, which gives them great information to pass on to potential adopters about each dog’s likes, dislikes and temperament.

Well done Luvable!

December is a GREAT time to donate food to the needy, and many of us do so.

But are you donating the wrong types of food?

See what you should be donating here. It could make a big difference to the people you’re helping.

Imagine the scene:- you’ve had flu at home that spread around the family. Although everyone’s (mostly) over it now, you’ve got visitors coming to stay soon. You don’t want them to get flu too!

Luckily, the solution is easy – and green and eco friendly of course.

  1. Mix vinegar and water (half-half) in a spray bottle, and add essential oils if you wish for fragrance.
  2. In the bathroom, wipe clean the toilet handle, door handle and tap or faucet handles daily to prevent the spread of bacteria and germs.
  3. In the kitchen, clean the handles of your faucets, refrigerator, oven, cabinets and dishwasher as well as trash cans and rubbish bins. Wipe down countertops after use too.

Your kitchen is one of the main social hubs in your home, and like the bathroom, it has many shared surfaces that need to be kept clean to prevent the spread of germs.

Vinegar is a mild acid that also naturally disinfects – far safer for us than bleach, and miles better for the environment too.

sky-pale-ale-beer-by-innis-gunn-breweryA Scottish brewery has created a one-of-a-kind beer or pale ale.

Innis & Gunn, the U.K.’s second-largest craft brewer, sourced the water for its new beer directly from clouds above Moffat, Scotland. They used a power kite with an attached turbine to pull and collect moisture from the clouds.

Craft brewers around the world continue to come up with creative beers to draw attention to their brands and build interest. At least this one is quite green and eco friendly!
