Green, Environment News 5 January 2017

A round-up of this week’s environmental, green and ecofriendly news and updates.

I hope you picked up my book on Happiness last week! I will be selling it to the general public, but for now, it’s totally free for my subscribers.

It’s amazing what a difference this book can make.

As one very special subscriber said “happiness is a choice you make each moment, no matter what is happening” – and I  agree absolutely!

Juicing for fitnessI’ve got another wonderful free ebook for you this week. This time, it’s all about meeting or improving your fitness goals by getting all the right nutrients to power your exercise.

It’s clever stuff!

The beginning of the New Year is the time when many of us vow to get more exercise – and this free ebook is the perfect way to help you do exactly that. Click here to download it free now!

Most people aren’t.

Here are some questions to help you to find out – and a solution.

We’re used to seeing birds flying and migrating overhead. But did  you know that lots of insects also migrate every year?

A new report published in the journal Science shows that about 3.5 trillion (yes, trillion) insects migrate over southern England every year. That’s about 3,200 tons of flying biomass – wow! That’s more than seven times the mass of the 30 million songbirds that migrate from the UK to Africa every fall or autumn.

The study points out that other parts of the world may host even greater insect migrations. Their journeys are just as impressive as many bird migrations — and just as important, given the wonderful services that insects provide to the environment.

slow movement to protect planet earthThe beginning of a new year is a great time to take stock, and review what we’re doing.

So I thought I’d do a “Back-to-Basics” post on living green.

Have a look at it. Pat yourself on the back for the things you’re already doing.

Then see if there’s anything extra you can do this year.

solar energy on exsting roofRenewable energy made huge gains in 2016 – even though the media preferred to report on more “interesting” topics.

In the U.S., the amount of residential solar installed rose dramatically, and utilities built solar projects in record-breaking numbers. Wind energy capacity in the U.S. also continued to rise (though not as dramatically as in 2015).

Federal tax credits kept solar and wind competitive even when the cost of natural gas (which gets its own subsidies) reached epic lows earlier this year.

Worldwide, the global economy has been growing but CO2 emissions per unit of GDP have been falling. The Paris climate agreement inspired a new wave of private investment in clean-tech.

Already, solar power is the cheapest form of new electricity in some markets, and it’s competitive with coal worldwide. That’s good news!
