With Brussels in lockdown due to a terrorist threat, the police have asked residents not to mention any police activity they may see, on social media. So Belgians turned to tweeting about the next most popular thing – cats! With wonderful humour, Twitter has been flooded with wonderful cat pictures using the hashtag #Lockdown.

“We must not let fear win” said one resident.

Twitter was also flooded after a police dog called Diesel was killed when a terrorist detonated a suicide vest as the dog searched for the culprits who were behind the recent attacks in Paris, France. People tweeted the hashtag #JeSuisDiesel (I am Diesel) to honor the courageous canine.

Russia has offered to send an Alsatian puppy to France as a tribute and to show solidarity. He is a working dog named Dobrynya, after a Russian folk hero associated with strength, goodness, valor and selfless assistance.

Big Oil Fights Kids – Green News 11 25 2015

A group of 21 children and teenagers are suing the Obama administration over climate change, with the backing of James Hansen, the former chief climate scientist for NASA.

They say the government’s inaction on climate change is a violation of their right to life, liberty and property. They want immediate action to protect the Earth. Good for them!

But of course, Big Oil are fighting them – and  they aren’t pulling any punches even though they’re fighting kids. They say action on climate change will cause “massive societal changes” and damage the economy.

Julia Olson, the lead attorney from Our Children’s Trust said: “The biggest fossil fuel polluters on the planet, including Exxon and Koch Industries, just asked the court for permission to argue that young people don’t have a constitutional right to life if it means reducing fossil fuel use.”

What a nice way of putting it!

(That, and if we don’t have a liveable planet, the economy will be the least of our worries).

Could Climate change be the next important civil rights struggle of the 21st century?
