Green Pets at Halloween (Video)

Animal Lovers Get Green Pets this Halloween

Today I feature a green news snippet from the Philippines.  There have been several cases of animal cruelty highlighted there – and indeed, there are cases of animal cruelty all around the world.  In an effort to combat cruelty in the Philipines, an animal welfare group held a Halloween Dog Show.

Green pets were dressed up in Halloween costumes and prizes were awarded for the best dressed.

Now I must admit that I don’t normally like to see animals dressed up – I worry about them getting too hot, and it’s not exactly a normal environment for them.  Over-dressed dogs are not green pets.

However, in this case these green pets are carrying a message – and the event received a lot of coverage in the Philippines.   The organisers used the event to publicise messages about responsible, green pet ownership, and so in that way it took on the ethos of ‘do no harm’.

  • It always shocks me that people can be cruel to animals who are so sweet in nature. Thanks for reminding us once again to be good to our 4 footed friends….and to be green in regards to them as well.

  • Clare I don’t like it either to see animals dressed up, but as the young lady says in the video, even though it can seem trivial, it is for a good cause and it catches a lot of attention.
    Thanks!

  • I have to say the only green associated with Lucy (aka Little Ears McGirk) and Chucky (aka Baby Face Sfinkster) is the envy other dogs may have at how spoiled my guys are. I think Michael Vick got off easy. Taking pleasure in hurting another living thing is cruel. Eye for an eye with those who abuse animals.

  • I was at a Burger King in the outskirts of Sacramento years ago and there were signs all around that said it is illegal to torture and dump cats there. I thought that was the most bizarre thing ever. If you have to put signs up, there must be a real problem!

  • Never understood why people insist on dressing up animals in clothes but in this case since it was for a good cause, I’m glad you shared the video with us.

  • I echo other’s thoughts on dressing dogs and cats up. Other than an occassional bandana, my Golden Retriever wears only what genetics gave her to wear.

This one is definitely for a good cause!
