Best Ways to Improve Memory, Concentration – Essential Oils

Improve Memory and Concentration – Naturally

improve memory, concentration naturallyWe don’t want to forget things, yet it’s easy to do so, particularly with computers so prevalent.

I find that because we rely on computers and phones for so much now, we use our brains less. How many phone numbers do you remember? I know my own and that’s about all, I just look them up when I need them. I used to know many phone numbers. Sigh.

As we get older we tend to find it harder to remember things too.

We also need to concentrate on whatever tasks or work we need to complete, and not get distracted.

What Can Be Used to Improve Memory and Concentration?

Caffeine is a good stimulant (if taken in small quantities) but of course it’s greener to use more natural methods to improve memory and concentration.

Essential oils are green and eco friendly, and the perfect solution to many problems.

Essential oils are expensive to buy but they last a long time because you only use a small amount. Be sure to store them in a cool, dark, dry place.

Here are two ways to use essential oils to help improve memory and concentration.

The first recipe uses a diffuser, and the second uses a spray bottle – you choose which method you prefer.

Diffuser Recipe

4 drops rosemary essential oil

4 drops clary sage essential oil

3 drops ginger essential oil

3 drops basil essential oil

3 drops mandarin essential oil

Combine all ingredients and turn the diffuser on.

Diffusers don’t need to be electric. You can make or buy little ceramic diffusers which hold a tea light candle, with a ‘lid’ on top where you place the oils. The heat of the candle diffuses the oils into the air. (Always try to use soy candles instead of petroleum-based normal candles).

improve memory, concentration with a reed diffuserYou can also have a completely “manual” diffuser. Add a little carrier oil (e.g. virgin olive oil) to the essential oils, and place them in a small jar with a narrow neck. Add reeds to the jar so that their ends are in the oil mixture. They will absorb then diffuse the oils.  Flip the reeds occasionally to keep the diffusion active.

(If you’re going to buy a reed diffuser, it doesn’t need to be an expensive brand like the one in the photo. There are other green and eco friendly alternatives).

Air Freshener (Spray Bottle) Recipe

8 drops ginger essential oil

5 drops peppermint essential oil

4 drops grapefruit essential oil

3 drops lemon essential oil

4 drops jasmine essential oil

6 oz / 180ml water

Combine all ingredients in a small 8oz / 220ml spray bottle. Shake to combine all the oils.  Spray throughout the room or office for a productive result.

But the diffusers and the sprays are all moveable so you can place them where you need them.

What do you use when you need to concentrate?

Is your memory good enough that you don’t need anything to help it? (Good for you – I wish mine was!).

  • Nope, I don’t know many phone numbers any longer, my own, the doctor who has had the same number since I started going there back in the 70s. 🙂 I practice using my brain by doing word puzzles and Sudoku but I know I need to do more. I didn’t realize another benefit of essential oils was improved memory. thank you.

  • When I NEED to concentrate, I turn on instrumental, easy listening music. I don’t do puzzles. I sew and quilt, puzzle enough for me. I understand about memory damage. When the seventh cranial nerve was damaged by Bells Palsy, it did as much damage as a stroke. It took 2 to 3 years before I could complete a sentence without help. That’s why I write. To keep in touch with my words. Any stressful day, words go away. I like your recipes for the infusers. Thank you, I’ll give them a try. I don’t always comment on the blog but I always read them. I’m finally catching up. You have a lot of good tips to offer. Thank you.

    • Music is a GREAT help for concentration! I find sometimes it works beautifully for me, and other times I end up listening to and enjoying the music and not doing whatever-it-is-I-need-to-concentrate-on. (But that could just be an excuse!!)
Sewing and quilting definitely keep the mind active, they require concentration and attention to detail. That is so interesting about Bells Palsy and speech – well done you to have battled through it, and to continue making progress by writing, that makes so much sense.
I’m glad you find my tips useful, thanks very much indeed!
