I have always admired research pioneer Jane Goodall.  She journeyed to Africa 50 years ago and changed the way humans think about their relationship with the animal kingdom.  Goodall proved that chimps feel emotions and have personalities. A film biography of her life stars Angelina Jolie and Pierce Brosnan.  Just last week Goodall was in Los Angeles to launch the US premier of the film.   “Jane’s Journey” shows why she chose to leave the wild chimpanzee community she loved, and travel the world to spread messages of conservation and animal welfare. “The world is in a horrible mess … We need to start changing the way we live, from the clothes we buy to the food we eat. We need to change our greed and materialism. We need a critical mass to realize that we need money to live, rather than to live for money.”

Even at over 80 years old, Goodall still travels the world 300 days a year asking people to think about their animal counterparts and how each person can contribute to improving the world’s environmental crisis. Her Roots and Shoots program, a global environmental and humanitarian youth network, is in 128 countries.  “These programs can have two people to a whole school of people. From pre-school to university students. These children are going to grow up to be our politicians, teachers, scientists,” she said. “Chimps taught us we’re not separated from the animal kingdom, we’re a part of it. So I ask them to think about that”. This diminutive woman is amazing.  She lived her dream – to go to Africa and work with animals – and then gave it up to tell the world what she believes.

  • Jane Goodall is simply amazing … passionately standing up for and spreading what she believes. I cannot wait to see the movie about her.

  • Looking forward to seeing the movie! I really like her quote in the first video clip:
“Never forget…every single day that you live you make a difference. You impact the world.”

Powerful words to keep in mind every day!

  • What a great quote by Jane in that video clip and I paraphrase, “If we are the most intelligent species on the plant then why are we destroying it?”

    Very amazing person.

  • Jane Goodall is a household name. It makes you wonder how one person can be so environmentally motivated and so well respected yet, not enough people emulate her.

  • Hi Green Goddess,

I saw a preview for the Jane Goodall movie when I was last at the movie theatre just a week or two ago. Thank you for helping to get the word out about Goodall’s work and her legacy. I remember first hearing about her as a child and seeing the animal relationships demonstrated in film.

    Happy Dating and Relationships,

  • Jane Goodall is definitely one of my heroes. Her work was an inspiration to me in college as a Biology major. I came very close to going to grad school to work on a PhD before going the direction I ultimately went.

Can’t wait to see the movie.
