Natural Remedies for Pets are Safe and Easy!

Natural remedies for your pet keep your dog safeYour pet is part of your family, and if you avoid toxic products for you and your loved ones, you’ll want to do the same for your pets.

And of course, that means the best care too!

What happens when your pet is not 100% healthy and happy?

There are medicines for pets of course, but (like with human medicine), some medicines have side effects.

So, where possible, it’s good to use natural remedies for pets.

(Of course, check with your veterinarian first).

Natural Remedies for Pets with Ear Mites

It’s important to keep the ears of pets clean. If you do notice mites in their ears, apply a mixture of Vitamin E and almond oil – squeeze a few drops into their ear and massage it in.  Make sure you cover the entire ear – use a cloth or cotton tip applicators to clean all areas of mites.

Yes, pets can have bad breath. To stop the odour, brush their teeth.

Carrots are also useful – feed your pets carrots (introduce them slowly into their diet if your pets aren’t used to them).

Skunk Smell

Combine vinegar and water together and rub it all over your pet. Continue to pour it on and rub in until the odour is gone. Be sure to wear gloves so that you don’t end up smelling of skunk too!

Itchy Skin

This can be very frustrating for both owner and pet. There are many causes of itchy skin.

Bathe your pet in cool water with added Epsom salt to help your pet find relief.

Natural Remedies for Pets with Insect Bites

Pet skin can become red and inflamed from insect bites. To stop them from scratching, make a paste of baking soda and water. Apply that to the affected areas.

Natural Remedies for Pets with a Urinary Infection

Most infections like this are caused by bacteria. One way to kill off some of the bacteria is to increase the acidity in the urine. Feed your pet small quantities of fresh citrus juices (e.g. orange) or cranberry juice to help reduce their discomfort and the infection.

Many pets suffer from car or motion sickness. Don’t feed your pet before travel, because food in the belly combined with the car’s motion can make them sick.

Also, try putting your pet in the front seat (you can buy special pet seat belts, or use a crate). When they can see where they are going they can orient better. Open the window a little to let in fresh air as well.

Of course……

Always check to make sure these remedies have worked, and if you have any doubts, always check with your veterinarian.

Natural remedies for pets are quick, easy and cost-effective – and most pets are happy to avoid a trip to the vet if they don’t need it!
