Huge Costs Savings with Ride Sharing!
Yesterday I talked about the rise in popularity of car pooling – also called ride share, share a car, care share, car pool and share a ride.
Now everyone can save money by sharing the costs of driving.
Companies like www.carpooling.com have expanded and offer a huge network of cost-effective and eco-friendly rides.
It’s such a cool concept! The site is completely free and anyone can place an offer on the site, either for a regular or a one-off journey or ride. In addition to the website, you can find rides via iPhone and Android apps as well as Facebook.
Simply pick the driver or passenger you want to travel with (for example, only top-rated users, or women only), how much space and comfort you need for the ride, where you want to meet and what you are willing to pay.
The company gave me some really interesting statistics, so I made an infographic. Plus you’ll be interested to know that carpooling.com have enabled over 170,000 friendships on the road since they began, not to mention 6 weddings!)

I am so pleased to hear you all approve of the contibutions our carpooling.com users have made to saving the environment (and a little money!) Since launch in Germany in 2001 we have been growing dramatically throughout Europe and we only have our users to thank for that. Yes, every little makes a difference and we would like to see carpooling getting more popular everywhere in the future. Happy carpooling everyone!
When I lived in St Paul, MN I used Hour Car which was another way of sharing a car. (www.hourcar.net)…because the monthly membership is only 5.70 I still have my membership .If I ever return to the states, it will be cheaper than a rental car!!! They use hybrid cars, too! It was especially nice for me as I lived right between 2 of their hubs…so their were 2 cars within a few blocks of my apt.and cost wise it was much cheaper than owing a car!

My optimal choice is to live at the beach, work at the beach, shop at the beach, fish at the beach, surf at the beach. Basically, never leave the beach. It works wonders for the soul and the pocket book. I remember one year where I put 700 miles on my car in one year! Some years I went without a car and it was amazing. That is a ridiculous amount of cash saved. Even more ridiculous is the amount of emmissions not created and fuel savings. Just incredible.

Carpooling is a great way to save money. You never know who you might meet when you share a car. Good for you, good for the enviornment.
Carpooling or Ride Sharing definitely seems the way to go. The savings to the wallet and the planet are significant.
