Wonderful and informative video! I especially like #2 and had to laugh at the truth of how we heat water up just to cool it down in the shower. Here’s another tip to go along with the bucket idea … if one uses the shower which is closest to the water heater, they’ll get the hot water faster. We have two showers in our home, one which is within a few feet of the water heater, the other which is at the other end of our apartment. There is quite a difference in the length of time it takes the hot water to travel to each. Using the closest one means that we have hot water in seconds rather than minutes.

Military showers–I’ve been doing that since I was kid and didn’t even know it! My dad, who was in the US Navy, would tell us “OUT OF THE SHOWERS IN 5 MINUTES!!”
We have a bucket in the bath to catch that water.
Not sure about the low flow shower heads. I tried one once and it was like being spit on.
I love saving water.

ROFL re your description of the low flow showerheads. Yes, some of them are jolly awful, that why it’s good to make sure you get one with an aerator, otherwise the pressure can be a problem.

When I used to live in San Francisco during the 1990s, we had already been experiencing a drought for years by the time I moved there. We had something of water rationing for a time. I remember using both a water shut off device on the shower head nozzle as well as keeping a small bucket in the shower to capture some of the water. We would then use that water in the WC.

Clare, I have a friend who was in the Navy and would only use the water to get soaped up and then only turn the water on to wash off. I am sure he was being eco friendly and didnt even know it.
