How to Drink More H2O – and Get Double the Benefit Every Time You Drink Water!

Most people should probably drink more water. But there’s a small problem.  Drinking water is, well, it’s not very exciting, is it? But water is essential to our health – it’s the perfect way to detox, stay hydrated and keep our bodies functioning correctly.

The best way I’ve found to make sure I drink enough water, is to add things to it.  This not only makes it more interesting to drink, but it also adds extra health benefits.

save water wash fresh fruit in bowlWhen you add fruit, vegetables and herbs to water, you completely change the flavor , and get extra goodness and nutrients from the “extras” you add.

You’re helping your body to thrive! When you drink these fun waters, you help your skin, your digestion, your brain and other organs, and you’ll probably eat less too.

These home-made waters are SO different from those nasty bottles of vitamin water or flavored water. They’re mostly sold in plastic bottles, which often end up as litter which never decomposes. Plus, the “additives” in these bottles are mostly artificial chemicals (and perhaps sweeteners too) that are not always healthy, and rarely offer a real, provable benefit.

Let’s look at some great ways to make water more tasty and enjoyable.

Rosemary and Grapefruit Water

I like this recipegrapefruit seed extract from grapefruits because it tastes great and offers excellent benefits.

  • Rosemary looks attractive as a garnish, but it also contains antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties. The aroma is lovely – and it is said to relieve stress too.
  • Grapefruit is rich in antioxidants and vitamins but very low in calories. A grapefruit a day can also help with weight loss.
  • Because this grapefruit and rosemary water tastes so good, you’ll drink more of it. Staying properly hydrated is so important, and it’s great to do it in an enjoyable way.

If you think you’re hungry, try drinking water instead of eating a snack. Your body sends similar signals for hunger and thirst, so you may simply need water, not food!

If you don’t like grapefruit, use any other citrus fruit instead. Or add berries for a different flavor (lightly mash them before adding, to release the goodness).

You need:-

  • Water
  • 3 or  4 sprigs of rosemary. Roll each sprig between your palms to loosen the natural oils and aroma.
  • 1 grapefruit, washed and cut into chunks or slices. Leave the skin on.

Add the rosemary and grapefruit to a jug or pitcher, and top up with water.

Place in the fridge for at least an hour or two. Leaving it overnight will allow the flavours to infuse well.

Other Yummy Combinations

Really, you can add any combination of fruit and herbs to your water  You can also add edible flowers to make it look even more attractive! (See which flowers are edible here)

Here are some suggestions

  • best fruits to eat cherriesPineapple ((thinly sliced) and mint
  • Strawberries ((halved) with lemon slices
  • Orange slices with cinnamon
  • Grapes (halved) with orange slices
  • Watermelon and muddled basil leaves
  • Cucumber slices with muddled mint leaves
  • Lemon  slices with a sprinkle of cayenne pepper
  • Cherries (halved) with lime slices
  • Watermelon slices with sprigs of rosemary, rubbed between your palms
  • Apple  slices with a sprinkle of cinnamon

Apple Cider Vinegar Water

If you want to detox and improve your digestion, probably the best ingredient is apple cider vinegar. It’s got a very strong flavour, so add just a little to your water each day,  and you’ll get used to the taste.

Infused Water Is Great!

Because the water tastes so much more interesting, you’ll find it easy to drink more, which is good (most people don’t drink enough water). The herbs and fruits add extra vitamins and nourishment – so you get double the benefit!
