Why The Slow Movement is Right for YOU!

The Slow Movement Could be Just What You Need!

Busy life needs the slow movementTake a look at your life.

For most of us, our days are jam-packed.  A typical day might include:

  • preparing breakfast and lunches,
  • the school run,
  • commuting to work,
  • a hectic day of meetings and deadlines,
  • collect the kids from school,
  • organise after-school activities,
  • homework,
  • cleaning and tidying,
  • gym,

And perhaps also:

  • time for the slow movementa second job,
  • caring for a relative,
  • learning a new skill,
  • studying for a qualification……

Our schedules are so full during the week that it is often hard for us to find the time to cook dinner – which has many of us purchasing take-out food at least twice a week.

It’s all about rushing to get everything done.

It’s a fairly new phenomenon.

Our grandparents didn’t rush like this!  They worked hard, and they didn’t have our “modern conveniences” but they also didn’t have the same pressures.

Yet if you think about it, our basic needs haven’t changed over centuries.

What Do We Really Need?

Assuming we have food and shelter:

  • We need to be seen and appreciated
  • We need to belong
  • We need nearness and care, and a little love

urgent things need the slow movementAnd it’s difficult to have those needs fulfilled when we’re constantly rushing – and stressed!

Time for reflection and togetherness are important.

But I Can’t Stop!

Agreed.  You can’t just stop everything and ‘drop out’.

But there ARE ways you can slow down and prioritise, so that you do have more time for the important things.

  • Slowing down while raising a family on my own was hard, I thought I had complicated things when I decided to pull my boys out of school and home school them. Little did I know that was the answer to my entire problem. Looking forward to your next post.

    • Wow Lois, I’m a great admirer of anyone willing to home school, and I’m delighted that it’s worked out so well for you and your family, that’s really great!
