A Tiny House Looks Gorgeous – But Could You Live in One?
This is a Guest Post by Molli McGee
Have you heard about tiny houses? These pint-size abodes are growing in popularity throughout the world because of their focus on simple living. At 500 square feet or less (about 46 square metres), a tiny house is highly compatible with purposeful designs and eco-conscious lifestyles. Let’s take a look at some of the realities of living in a tiny house.
A Smaller Price Tag
Looking to ditch the mortgage? Going tiny is a perfect way to do just that! Today, residential homes in the U.S. cost an average of $200,000. Rising housing prices are encouraging people to look at other options – and easier realty referrals – with houses of a smaller size!
Eco-Friendly
A tiny house is the gateway to an environmentally sustainable way of living–here are some of the reasons why:
- It takes far less energy to cool or heat a tiny space; and those lower consumption rates are great for the environment!
- Less space means less room for clutter. You’ll think twice before buying products or food with heavy packaging.
- Alternative energy solutions such as solar energy are hugely compatible with tiny homes. It also helps that tiny house solar energy is cheaper than for a residential home!
- There are lots of eco-friendly appliances geared toward tiny living. For starters, a composting toilet that’s designed for a boat fits perfectly in a tiny home!
Freedom to Roam
Getting off the grid is far easier when you own a tiny house on wheels. Combine that with some alternative energy solutions and you’re sorted! Additionally, a new job across the country won’t present a problem when you can take your entire home along for the move.
Save Time
Use that smaller square footage to your advantage! A smaller space means fewer surface areas to get dirty and less space for you to clean. That time can be better spent on the things in life that are important to you!
Get Closer to Loved Ones
Tiny houses naturally bring people closer together because they’re tiny. Because there are rarely separate spaces, a tiny house encourages conversation rather than avoidance. Also, the intimacy of a small space is great for a romantic meal for two–or even a small dinner party with friends!
Is It For You?
Does the idea of living in a tiny house resonate with you? Tiny houses aren’t for everyone, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing!
