Walking Benefits Us All

Walking Benefits You – and The Planet!

walking benefits the planet too We all know we need to get lots of exercise (although some of us don’t get as much as we should – I know I don’t!).

But did you know that walking is one of the most green and eco friendly forms of exercise?

Here’s why :

  • You don’t need any special equipment (other than shoes), so you’re not buying “stuff” and using up precious resources.
  • You don’t create any emissions or pollution by walking
  • You’re not using a building (such as a gym) that took resources and space to build
  • You’re not using air conditioning
  • You’re not contributing to climate change by walking

Now we know that walking benefits the planet.

Let’s find out how walking benefits you – because it certainly does!

Walking Benefits – Simplicity

walking benefits - simplicityPart of living green is about living more simply – and walking is a delightfully simple form of exercise.

Because walking is so simple, you can begin (or continue) walking at any level of fitness. It’s great for beginners, but it’s also easy to add more challenges to a walking routine.

People don’t exercise for all sorts of reasons, but the most common are:

  • Lack of time
  • Not wishing to join a gym
  • Can’t afford gym membership fees
  • Not wanting to exercise alone

But walking takes so little time, doesn’t involve a gym, and you can walk with someone else if you wish.

Walking really is one of the easiest forms of exercise.

You can use exercise equipment or walk outdoors.

You can do it at home, at the office and even on vacation.

The possibilities are virtually endless.

Walking Benefits – Stress Relief

Wwalking benefits - clarityalking is surprisingly relaxing. As a result, it has the ability to relieve stress and can give you a deep sense of peace that lasts long after the walk is finished.

If you have problems that you’re trying to solve, or issues that are worrying you, getting outside and walking can help your brain to work through the problems, leaving you more relaxed.

By walking when you’re struggling with something emotionally, you can gain a release from the inner turmoil.

A brisk walk releases endorphins which act as a natural mood stabilizer that can last all day, making you feel upbeat.

Anxiety can be helped with a walking program as can depression and even anger.

And you’ll be doing something healthy for your body while you’re helping your mood.

By doing something that’s easy and fun, you reward your body with a healthier, longer life.

Walking Benefits – Social

walking benefits - socialNot only do you get out and about in the fresh air and (hopefully!) sunshine, but you also gain the added bonus of experiencing new sights and sounds, depending on the area where you walk.

If you’ve got a dog, it’s a great way to give you both exercise (you’ll bond too).

Walking outdoors in your neighbourhood can be a great way to get involved with people who are also walking in the area.

It’s also a good way to meet and get to know the people in your neighbourhood.

You might even be able to find a walking partner this way if you want one.

Walk because it’s easy to do. Not only is it easy, but it doesn’t cost a thing to enjoy fresh air and sunshine.
