3 Great Ways to Make Absolutely Sure You Stick To Your New Year’s Resolutions and Lose Weight

stick to your new year's resolutions

The most common New Year resolution is to lose some weight.  It makes sense – most of us indulge ourselves over the holidays, which may lead a couple of extra pounds.

The New Year is a great time to make a fresh start! You’re going to eat healthier and enjoy lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, instead of rich dinners and convenience food.

Great!

  • Things go wrong.
  • You don’t have time.
  • You’re tired.
  • You’ve had a bad day.

And all your good intentions go out of the window.

And you end up feeling disappointed in yourself. Again.

And so the weight stays on. And suddenly, the holidays roll around again, and you over-indulge …….. it’s why most people gain weight year-on-year.

Don’t let that happen again this year!

Stick to your New Year’s Resolutions, and lose that excess weight!

But how?

Well, I’ll tell you how I did it.

I replaced one meal every day with a healthy (filling) smoothie.

I made sure they were quick and easy to make – I’ll show you how, below – and it meant that I was eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables that are naturally low in calories.

Now – will excess weight drop off you instantly by doing this? No, it won’t. But it’s an easy way to make sure you’re getting proper nutrition – and it’s something that’s easy to make a habit, so it’s an excellent start.

New Year’s Resolutions Tip 1 – Replace Just One Meal a Day

If you want to lose weight, it’s tempting to change everything at once and only eat according to a specific diet. But that’s really hard – especially if you want to make it a habit. Losing weight – and keeping it off – means changing habits.

I find the easiest way is to change one thing, that’s easy to stick to. Something that will make a difference.

If you resolve to change one meal a day from “normal” to a healthy, nutritious smoothie, it’s one small change that’s easy to do. No major disruptions. (And you might even convince your family to join you!).

keep it simple and easyKeeping it simple is key to being able to keep your New Year’s Resolutions.  And in the next tip, I’ll show you how to make it even simpler!

When you choose a nutrient-dense weight-loss smoothie instead of a meal, you’ll have some calories spare for something else you enjoy. Or if you don’t eat anything else, you’ll have a bigger calorie deficit so you’ll lose weight faster.

(Note that replacing one meal a day with a smoothie probably won’t cause you lose a huge amount of excess weight quickly. But it’s a healthy way to lose weight gradually over time, and a great way to develop better, healthier eating habits!).

New Year’s Resolutions Tip 2 – Prep

Here’s the secret. You’ve got to make sure you make it really, really EASY for yourself to stick to your new year’s resolutions.

And you do that with just a small amount of planning.

Here’s how.

  1. Prep a week’s worth of smoothies in advance. I normally do this on a weekend. Choose some of your favorite smoothie recipes, and work out what ingredients (if any) you need to buy for the week ahead.
  2. smoothie ingredients in bags for each dayThen portion out the ingredients into freezer bags, one for each day. Toss them in the freezer.
  3. Each day, simply toss a bag into your blender with some liquid, whizz, and pour. Instant, nutritious, healthy smoothie breakfast – yum!

And here’s why this prep is SO important. You get up each morning and you KNOW that you’ve got a tasty and oh-so-easy breakfast ready and waiting for you. When it’s so easy and convenient, you’re miles more likely to stick to this new habit.

New Year’s Resolutions Tip 3 – Freeze

Remember I said that to make a resolution stick, you’ve got to make it easy? Well, one of the concerns many people have is that smoothies take a long time to prepare. Luckily, that’s not true.

Frozen fruit and vegetables are picked at perfect ripeness and immediately frozen, sealing in all the natural goodness.

(Make sure there’s nothing added – check the ingredients list).

And best of all, frozen produce can save you prep time. I love mango for example, but it’s messy to prepare. But frozen mango chunks are delightfully easy – ready-made for smoothies!

Make It Easy!

It’s true! When you make a new habit easy, you’ll find you’ll stick to it.

And if you replace just one meal a day with a healthy, nourishing smoothie (that’s also yummy), you’ll find you’re eating healthier food (and losing weight) without even really trying!
